Punjabi heartthrob Diljit Dosanjh has eventually spoken out on the controversy of the non-release of his new film Sardaarji 3 in India. The film, also featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, will be released abroad only on June 27, 2025, following heightened political tensions and industry backlash.

What Happened
Sardaarji 3 was filmed in February 2025, before the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that led to new bans on Pakistani artists in Indian films.

During an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit clarified: "Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha… producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain." (When the film was made, everything was fine. After that, a lot happened beyond our control. So the producers decided to release it overseas.)

The Fallout
  • The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a ban on Diljit and requested the government act against the crew of the film.
  • The trailer, which was unveiled on June 22, has been geo-blocked in India, though teasers and songs remain.
Diljit on Hania Aamir
Diljit praised Hania for being professional, saying: "She's very professional. I respect her work and privacy. I'm also a private person, so our conversations were to the point."

Release Plan
  • Sardaarji 3 will hit overseas markets only on June 27, 2025.
  • The film is a horror-comedy satire with ghostbusting antics in the UK.
