With a big push towards digitalization and customer-centric service, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has unveiled a new initiative of doorstep SIM card delivery coupled with a self-service digital KYC (Know Your Customer) facility. It is among the efforts of BSNL to appear contemporary and try to win back market share with stiff competition from private sector telecom operators.

1. What's New?
  • Users can buy BSNL SIM cards online and have them delivered at home.
  • The service supports prepaid and postpaid connections and new numbers or MNP.
  • Customer can do the KYC process online on the official website of BSNL: sancharaadhaar.bsnl.co.in/BSNLSKYC.
2. How It Works
  • Give your name, PIN code, and alternate mobile number on the portal.
  • Mark whether the SIM is for you, family member, or someone else.
  • An OTP is sent to the second number to verify.
  • Once verified, the SIM is delivered at your doorstep.
3. Strategic Context
  • The move is part of BSNL's countrywide 4G rollout and upcoming 5G service launch to increase its subscriber base.
  • The telco is also launching Q-5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and expanding its digital infrastructure with the help of TCS, Tejas Networks, and C-DoT.
4. Why It Matters
  • BSNL follows Airtel, Jio, and Vi in introducing SIM card home delivery, achieving parity in customer convenience.
  • The move should reduce churn, poach new customers, and ease onboarding in the rural and urban markets.
