Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has been gifted a substantial amount of ₹5 crore by its renowned alumnus, Dr. Parasuram Balasubramanian, for the AquaMAP Centre. The centre is aimed at developing water management solutions and policy in India. The funding will create a corpus fund to help finance long-term activities in water management. AquaMAP, which was formed in 2022, interacts with various departments at IIT Madras and has undertaken assignments in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka such as rural wastewater management and water security. Industry giants such as IBM and Amadeus Software also collaborate with the centre.
AquaMAP's projects involve improving water quality assurance in Odisha and nature-based solutions in Karnataka. This funding reflects the centre's focus on tackling water-related issues across the country.
