Egypt's Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hanno has urged the creation of ethical guidelines for applying artificial intelligence in arts and culture. The call came as part of the Global Media Dialogue, which took place during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) in Mumbai, India.

In his address, Minister Hanno reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to the conservation of cultural heritage and the safeguarding of the latter from distortion, particularly with emerging technologies like AI increasingly playing a role in the creative industry. He emphasized the use of AI responsibly so that the authenticity of cultural expressions is upheld and the misrepresentation or manipulation of heritage would be prevented.

The minister's comments come after leaders from 77 nations convened to talk about the future of media, creativity, and cultural exchange in a fast-evolving technology-driven world. The Global Media Dialogue has witnessed global demands for global cooperation to set standards that strike a balance between innovation and ethical issues, particularly in the era of AI-generated content.

Minister Hanno also met with Indian officials, including Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on bilateral cultural cooperation and the common responsibility of both countries in maintaining ethical standards in global creative economy.

The Global Media Dialogue will likely end with a call for transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in the use of AI in arts and culture as Egypt has invoked strong ethical standards.
