Elon Musk has announced a dramatic return to his signature “24/7 work mode,” pledging to sleep in conference, server, and factory rooms to personally oversee urgent improvements at X (formerly Twitter), Tesla, and SpaceX after a widespread outage crippled the X platform for users worldwide.
The outage, which began on May 24, saw tens of thousands unable to log in or access content on X, with Downdetector reporting over 25,800 incidents at its peak. The disruption was traced to a data center failure, compounded by reports of a fire at an Oregon facility, possibly linked to battery systems. While service was mostly restored within hours, the incident exposed critical vulnerabilities in X’s failover and redundancy systems.
In a candid post, Musk admitted, “Major operational improvements need to be made. The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not.” He emphasized the necessity of being “super focused” on X, xAI, and Tesla, especially with critical technology rollouts and a Starship launch scheduled for next week.
Musk’s renewed work commitment comes as he steps back from political advisory roles and the Department of Government Efficiency, addressing investor concerns over his divided focus and Tesla’s recent sales slump. He reassured stakeholders that his priority now lies in stabilizing and advancing his core companies.
