EV Push Accelerates: Over 18.84 Lakh Vehicles Supported Under FAME Schemes

India’s electric mobility mission has reached a new milestone, with the government confirming support for over 18.84 lakh electric vehicles under the FAME-I and FAME-II schemes as of June 30, 2025. The update was shared by Minister of State Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Key Highlights From FAME-I and FAME-II

- FAME-II accounted for 16.29 lakh EVs, while FAME-I supported 2.55 lakh vehicles between 2015 and 2019.
- ₹912.5 crore was sanctioned under FAME-II for installing 9,332 public charging stations, of which 8,885 have already been commissioned.
- FAME-I had earlier sanctioned 520 charging stations with a budget of ₹43 crore.

Policy Objectives And Reach

- The schemes aim to promote adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles through demand aggregation, domestic technology development, and manufacturing support.
- Coverage spans metro, tier 2, and tier 3 cities, ensuring inclusive access to EV infrastructure.
- The initiative aligns with India’s COP 21 commitments and the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020.
