India hopes to put up a robust argument at the FISU World University Games 2025, with a 300-strong delegation of student-athletes from over 60 universities representing the country when the largest ever edition of the event is hosted at Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
Key Highlights and Scope of Participation
- The Games will be held from July 16 to 27 in six German cities: Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin
- A record 9,200-plus athletes from 150 countries will compete in 18 sports in 23 venues
- India's team was picked from trials involving over 400 Indian universities
- KIIT-DU leads the pack with 40 sportspersons, the largest number of participants from an Indian university.
India's Medal Chances
- India is targeting to improve its 2023 Chengdu performance where it ranked seventh with 26 medals (11 gold, 5 silver, 10 bronze)
- Shooting remains the strength, with 14 medals added in the previous edition
- Olympic sports personalities include Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Manu Bhaker, Jyothi Yarraji, Amlan Borgohain, and Priyanka Goswami.
