In a bold step to ease the pressure on Kashmir's people, the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union has requested all wholesale and retail fruit and vegetable traders to make basic foodstuffs available and affordable. The request is made as the region struggles with increased tensions and economic instability.
The Union, on behalf of all the fruit and vegetable growers' associations in Kashmir, asserted that the humanitarian duty of the dealers is to regulate prices. "Daily produce like fruits and vegetables should be made accessible at affordable and reasonable prices for the common man," said Basheer Ahmad Basheer, President of the Union. He appealed to sellers to provide discounted prices, resume supply chains, and deter hoarding or exploitation at this juncture.
The Union's plea was supported by other trade organizations, who deplored black marketing and manipulated price hikes. Mohammad Yaseen Khan, the President of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation, threatened exploitative behavior would be socially boycotted and stringent action in tandem with local authorities.
The collective call for solidarity underscores the region’s resilience, urging all dealers of essential commodities to act responsibly and prioritize the welfare of the community during these challenging times.
