IIT Madras has signed a path-breaking collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government with a view to boosting innovation and efficiency in the state's agri-food industry. The collaboration aims to leverage leading-edge research, digitalization, and start-up collaboration to empower farmers, boost productivity, and establish a robust agricultural ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.
Key Highlights
• Strategic Partnership: The partnership will leverage IIT Madras's research capability and the state government's resources to enhance agricultural extension services and promote sustainable agriculture in Tamil Nadu.
• Digital Agriculture Platform: In Project VISTAAR, the association will digitize advisory services, and farmers will be provided with access to real-time information regarding crop cultivation, market trends, supply chain, and government schemes on a sole digital platform.
• Start-up Ecosystem: IIT Madras's Centre for Research and Risk Financing of Start-ups will connect over 12,000 agri-tech start-ups with local farmers, promoting innovation and providing access to cutting-edge technologies and solutions tailored to the local environment.
• Capacity Building: Training and workshops form part of the program to equip farmers and agri-entrepreneurs with skills to facilitate mass adoption of new technology and best practices.

This collaboration is aimed at making Tamil Nadu a model for India's future technology-based agriculture.
