Game On! Sports Minister Unveils Exciting Khelo India Expansion Across the Nation

In a historic step to get the sports world in India buzzing, Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has declared that several new competitions will be launched under the Khelo India initiative, releasing a vibrant annual calendar meant to develop talent and ensure inclusivity all over the country.
 
Major Highlights:
  • Varied New Events: The enlarged Khelo India programme will now comprise the Khelo India Beach Games (KIBG), Khelo India School Games (KISG), Khelo India Water Sports, and the Khelo India North-East Games, along with the ongoing Youth, University, Para, and Winter Games.
  • First Beach Games Ever: Diu will be the venue for the first-ever Khelo India Beach Games from May 19-25, highlighting sports along the coast and giving a tourism boost to the region.
  • Tiered School Sports Structure: The Khelo India School Games will have a district-to-state-to-national structure, facilitating extensive participation and identification of talent at the grassroots level.
  • Emphasis on Indigenous and Martial Arts: Events such as the Khelo India Martial Art Games, Tribal Games (in Chhattisgarh), and Indigenous and Martial Art Games (in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) will introduce traditional sports into the mainstream.
  • Year-Round Involvement: The year-round calendar features the Khelo India University Games (March–April), Water Sports and North-East Games (May–June), among others, in order to provide year-round opportunities to young sports persons.
  • Strategic Vision: The move will help bolster India's domestic competition ecosystem, develop domestic sports infrastructure, and build athletes' capabilities to participate in international events such as Commonwealth Games 2030 and Olympics 2036.
This ambitious launch represents a new era in India's sporting history, empowering youth and creating a strong, inclusive sporting ecosystem.
