Visitors will be able to zip from Dehradun to Mussoorie in just 20 minutes, as India's longest ropeway project is set to transform Uttarakhand tourism. The 5.5 km ropeway, costing an estimated ₹300 crore, will connect Purkul village in Dehradun with Library Chowk in Mussoorie, reducing the current 2.5-hour road journey plagued by traffic congestion and landslides.
The state-of-the-art ropeway will feature 10-seater cabins, a carrying capacity of 1,000 individuals per hour, and provide panoramic views of the Himalayas. It's expected to provide a boost to tourism, reduce vehicular pollution, and provide a safe, faster alternative for locals and tourists alike. The project, a joint collaboration by the Uttarakhand government and a Swiss firm, is proposed to be inaugururated by late 2025.
