Mumbai’s Dharavi is set for a major transformation as the ambitious Dharavi Redevelopment Project promises to bring a wave of new parks, playgrounds, and green spaces for children and families. For decades, kids in Dharavi have played on dusty, makeshift grounds, but the new plan envisions an interconnected network of large parks and community playgrounds across the area, ensuring every child has access to safe, well-maintained spaces for sports and recreation.
The redevelopment will also overhaul educational infrastructure, relocating and upgrading existing schools so that each one features its own dedicated playground-promoting sports and physical education as a core part of learning. With 37% of the 430-acre project area reserved for open spaces, entertainment grounds, and parks, residents will enjoy a greener, healthier environment. This initiative is set to create a vibrant, future-ready neighborhood, offering Dharavi’s children opportunities generations have missed.
