Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ignited a large political tempest, claiming Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi went to Pakistan on a direct invitation by the country's intelligence agency, ISI, and not as a tour but "to train." Sarma claims he has documentary evidence and will make all details public by September 10, heightening his demand to keep Gogoi away from India's diplomatic offices.
Gogoi, Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, rejected the allegations as "insane" and "worse than a B-grade film," charging Sarma with making frivolous statements for more than a decade and challenging him to place facts before the public. The Congress has criticized the allegations as "atrocious," whereas Sarma contends that the issue is serious and is under official investigation.
