India and Bangladesh met in Kolkata for the 86th session of the Joint River Commission to talk about the Ganga Water Treaty that will run out in 2026. The session aims at creating a joint technical committee to discuss water sharing and flood prediction. The two countries underlined cooperation and sharing of information. A Bangladeshi team headed by Md. Abul Hossain evaluated the Farakka Barrage, which noted that equal distribution of water is required. Renewal of the treaty is important for sustaining bilateral relations and securing water for both nations.
