Godrej Properties Ltd is in the news as the CBI has lodged an FIR against its group firm, Godrej Estate Developers, for alleged environmental lapses in the Godrej Eternia project in Chandigarh. The FIR charges that the project did not receive clearance from the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) since it supposedly comes within 10 km of the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary.
In spite of the legal battle, Godrej Properties is optimistic that it will not face any negative financial impact from this development. The company is still evaluating the effect of the FIR on its financials and operations but assures that it has adhered to all applicable laws and regulations.
Godrej Properties reacted in shock at the FIR, claiming that environmental clearance for the project never made NBWL approval mandatory. The company asserts that the project is 6.6 km from the sanctuary and beyond the eco-sensitive zone of 2.75 km as notified.
Since the issue is sub-judice, Godrej Properties is approaching legal counsel to safeguard the interests of the project and customers.
