After more than a decade of legal proceedings, Mohali is set to establish its first old-age home. The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to allot three acres of land in Sector 78. The facility will accommodate 150 elderly residents, ensuring dignity, care, and medical support.
In a landmark development, Mohali will soon have its first dedicated old-age home after an 11-year-long legal struggle. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has instructed GMADA to provide land for the project, which will be developed by the Punjab Social Welfare Department.
Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi, who initiated the legal petition in 2015, announced that GMADA has allotted three acres of land in Sector 78 free of cost. The facility will be modeled on the successful old-age home in Tapa, Punjab, and is expected to become a modern, secure campus for senior citizens.
