A major scare unfolded on Wednesday evening as IndiGo flight 6E2142, carrying 227 passengers from Delhi to Srinagar, made an emergency landing at Srinagar Airport after encountering severe turbulence and a sudden hailstorm during its approach. The mid-air ordeal left the aircraft’s nose cone visibly damaged, with viral videos capturing the cabin shaking violently and passengers in panic—some praying and crying as hailstones battered the fuselage.

The pilot promptly declared an emergency with Air Traffic Control and managed a safe landing at 6:30 pm. All passengers and crew, including five Trinamool Congress MPs, were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The aircraft was immediately grounded for inspection and repairs, as per standard protocol.

IndiGo issued a statement confirming the crew followed all safety protocols and that the wellbeing of passengers was prioritized on arrival. The incident highlights the unpredictable weather affecting Delhi-NCR and northern India, which has disrupted several flights in recent days.
