Tata Power Renewable Energy has successfully commissioned a 300 MW DCR-compliant solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for NHPC. The project will supply power to Punjab State Power Corporation and generate 17,230 million units of clean energy, significantly supporting India’s climate and renewable energy targets.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Ltd, has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project in Karnisar Bhatiyan, Bikaner, Rajasthan. This large-scale project, developed for NHPC Limited as an EPC contractor, features about 775,000 domestically manufactured DCR-compliant solar cells and bifacial modules. It is designed to operate efficiently under harsh desert conditions, supporting India’s renewable energy goals.
The solar plant will supply power to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and is expected to generate approximately 17,230 million units of clean electricity over its operational lifetime. This corresponds to an estimated carbon dioxide offset of around 13.8 million tonnes, supporting India’s target of expanding non-fossil fuel energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030 and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070.
The project took around two and a half years to complete, showcasing Tata Power's strong project management and technical expertise. Additionally, the project emphasizes the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing and sustainable energy growth, with high-efficiency modules supplied by TP Solar Limited in Tirunelveli.
This commissioning reinforces Tata Power’s role as a key player in India’s energy transition, delivering reliable and sustainable renewable power to the grid.
