Union Minister Pralhad Joshi once more reiterated India's goal to be a global leader in green hydrogen production, referring to the success of the nation under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. During his address on March 4, 2025, he articulated plans to allocate another 7.8 lakh tonnes per annum (LTPA) of capacity for green hydrogen production in the current year, following the allocation of 4.12 LTPA in 2024.
India has already seen $70 billion in investments for the manufacture of green hydrogen and electrolyser. The mission will manufacture 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, supported by growth in renewable energy and monetary incentives like ₹17,490 crore under the SIGHT scheme.
This initiative places India at the forefront of decarbonizing industries like steel, aviation, and railways and reduces its fossil fuel dependency while creating jobs. The government is also introducing new manufacturing norms for production, storage, and transportation this year.
