IIT Roorkee and Japan's Niigata University have kicked off a double PhD programme, which is the first academic joint research effort in India-Japan collaboration. As part of the programme, the doctoral students get degrees from both institutions, allowing them to understand the world differently and benefit from diverse resources at educational institutions around the world.
The program covers state-of-the-art areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, renewable energy, sustainability, advanced materials, earthquake engineering, and biosciences.
The arrangement was completed through signing a Memorandum of Understanding by Prof. K.K. Pant of IIT Roorkee and Prof. Matsuo Masayuki of Niigata University. The initiative is focused on developing research skills in students and enhancing academic exchanges between the two countries, which will help address global issues through collaborative research.
