India’s domestic aluminium demand is projected to reach 8.5 million tonnes (MT) by FY30, according to a recent government document reviewed by industry analysts. This marks a significant leap from the current estimated demand of 5.3 MT, driven by rapid growth in infrastructure, electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, and construction.
The surge aligns with India’s ambitious ₹11.21 lakh crore infrastructure outlay in the FY26 Union Budget and the push for 500 GW of renewable energy by 2032. Aluminium’s lightweight, corrosion-resistant properties make it indispensable in power transmission, EV battery casings, metro rail, and smart city projects.
Industry experts forecast a CAGR of 7.2% through 2030, with demand doubling every five years. Primary aluminium production remains stable at 4.15 MT in 2024, while the secondary market—driven by recycling—accounts for 2.2 MT, highlighting the need for capacity expansion and circular economy initiatives.
