India's semiconductor industry is set to achieve a major milestone as IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announces the launch of the country's first domestically produced chip by September-October 2025. This development comes as part of India's ambitious Semicon India programme, which aims to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the country. Tata Electronics, in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, is constructing India's first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The government has also granted Rs 334 crore to the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, for research in gallium nitride technology. This breakthrough is expected to boost India's position in the global semiconductor market, projected to reach $63 billion by 2026.
