India’s Olympic Dream in Motion: Modi Vows to Sprint Towards Sporting Supremacy by 2036

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his government's commitment to turning India into a sporting superpower of the world as the nation considers bidding for the 2036 Olympics Games. Addressing the opening of the 7th Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar virtually, Modi cited three times increase in the sports budget in the last decade with ₹4,000 crore being spent presently-most of which on the development of sports infrastructure and nurturing youth talent.
He emphasized that a vibrant sporting culture will enhance India's "soft power" globally and offer new career options for youth in sports technology, physiotherapy, and data analytics, among others. Over 1,000 Khelo India centres are now operational in the country, reflecting the government's intent to build a robust sporting ecosystem. Modi urged sportspersons to fight hard and learn from the Games and reiterated India's commitment to join the world sporting elite by 2036.
