Indus Towers Ltd has reaffirmed its robust presence in India's telecom infrastructure space, rejecting fears of the possible threat posed by satellite internet services. The company's top management, including Managing Director and CEO Prachur Sah, pointed out that technical and commercial constraints of satellite technology ensure terrestrial networks will continue to be critical in the near future. This follows recent tie-ups between India's leading telecom operators and international satellite internet providers.
The company emphasized that satellite internet is already working as a complementary backhaul solution, mostly for rural and uncovered locations, and is not in direct competition with the tower infrastructure business at the core. Indus Towers is rather working on capitalizing on the continued pickup in 5G rollouts and the recovery of Vodafone Idea (Vi) as prime growth drivers. The recent payment of more than ₹5,100 crore of past-due dues by Vi has greatly enhanced the cash flow and financial health of Indus Towers, facilitating further investment in expanding its network and modernizing technology.
Forward-looking, Indus Towers is set to ride the growing data demand, new 5G rollouts, and industry consolidation. The company is also pursuing both organic and inorganic growth options, such as recent acquisitions, to enhance its market leadership and provide better value to stakeholders.
