Israel has also shown keen interest in cooperating with India on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat, in his speech to the media subsequent to the India-Israel CEO Forum in New Delhi, charted the opportunities of the corridor for linking Asia, the Middle East, and Europe through interlinked road, rail, and shipping routes.
Barkat revealed that Israel already started developing its share of the project, namely around the Haifa port, as part of an integrated supply chain policy. The IMEC was formally agreed upon at the G20 Summit in September 2023 and includes key global players like India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the European Union.
The project will enhance economic linkage and offer the participating countries ample opportunities. Barkat emphasized that the participation of Israel is part of its strategy of increasing worldwide connectivity.
