Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan has showered appreciation for Jayant Digambar Somalkar's Marathi movie 'Sthal' and called it "true cinema." The movie portrays the realities of rural arranged marriages in India and the pressure women are put through by society. 'Sthal' has received several awards, among them the NETPAC Award at Toronto International Film Festival. It was played by novice actors from Somalkar's village, bringing reality to its depiction of rural India. Release of the film is timed along with International Women's Day, highlighting its contemporaneous critique of women's roles in society.
