Jammu and Kashmir government has declared the winter vacation schedule for schools in Kashmir valley and Jammu’s winter zone due to dropping temperatures. The vacation starts in phases from November 26 for pre-primary to December 11 for senior classes, with staggered reopening dates in February and March 2026.
The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department announced the winter vacation timetable for all government and recognized private schools in the region, responding to the severe cold conditions experienced recently. The winter break has been planned in phases to ensure academic continuity while prioritizing students’ safety and comfort.
Pre-primary students will commence their winter vacation from November 26, continuing till February 28, 2026, with reopening set for March 1. Students from classes 1 to 8 will begin their break on December 1, lasting until February 28, resuming classes on March 1. Senior students of classes 9 to 12 will have winter holidays from December 11 to February 22, 2026, reopening on February 22.
Teachers are mandated to remain available for academic work during vacations and must return by February 20, 2026, for preparation before reopening. The phased approach aligns with fluctuating temperatures and aims to minimize disruption caused by harsh weather conditions, especially in Kashmir’s freezing climate.
