Kareena Kapoor has openly denied being called the "ultimate insider" and "privileged girl" of Bollywood, pushing back against the myth that her success is purely based on nepotism. Speaking in an open interview, she maintained that her 21-year-career in the industry could not have been sustained on privilege, adding, "21 years of working would not have happened with just nepotism - it's not possible". Kareena pointed out that most star kids have failed, and that the movie industry, as with any other, has families hoping their children become like them.

She also drew the crowd's attention, and she added, "The same people wagging fingers are making these nepotistic stars, right? You guys are going to see the movies. Don't go - nobody has cornered you". Kareena argued that the insider and the outsider both have to fight, and the audience is building or breaking a star.
