With the official schedule now released, the countdown to the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 has begun. The Games will run from July 14 to July 30, but action for the Indian contingent kicks off two days earlier, with several medal-heavy sports starting July 12.
Key Highlights for India:
- Cricket returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1900. India’s women’s team plays from July 12 to 20, while the men’s team begins July 22. Medal matches are set for July 29 at Fairgrounds Cricket Stadium.
- Wrestling, India’s most consistent Olympic medal sport since 2008, will be held from July 24 to 30 at LA Convention Centre Hall 2.
- Shooting, which delivered three medals in Paris, starts July 15 and runs through July 25 at Long Beach Target Shooting Hall.
- Athletics, featuring Neeraj Chopra in javelin, spans July 15 to 30 at LA Memorial Coliseum.
- Hockey, India’s most decorated Olympic sport, begins July 12 and concludes July 29 at Carson Field.
- Badminton, with stars like PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, will be contested from July 15 to 24 at the Galen Centre.
- Archery, still chasing its first Olympic medal, runs July 21 to 28 at Carson Stadium.
Ceremonial Dates:
- Opening Ceremony: July 14, split between LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.
- Closing Ceremony: July 30 at the Coliseum.
