Key Highlights

Bahrain’s Golden Residency program is fast emerging as the Gulf’s most accessible long-term visa, capturing the attention of Indians who once gravitated toward the glitzy UAE Golden Visa. Its rise is driven by lower costs, greater flexibility, and streamlined requirements, making it an attractive alternative for a diverse set of applicants.

What Makes Bahrain’s Offer Stand Out?

The Golden Residency provides a renewable 10-year residency, targeting professionals, investors, retirees, and those with exceptional talent, with minimal red tape. It allows holders to live, work, own property, operate a business, and sponsor family members—all under a single, simplified permit. No continuous stay or local employment is required to keep the residency active, and processing can take as little as 10 working days.

The entry barriers are lower compared to most GCC peers. Required investment for property owners is $530,000, less than both Dubai’s and Riyadh’s equivalents, while high-earning professionals or retirees need to prove a monthly income of BHD 2,000–4,000 ($5,300–$10,600) depending on their status, with relaxed criteria for globally recognized talent or entrepreneurs. Application fees total just $808 (BHD 305)—with no mandatory property lock-in or minimum physical stay—making it much more affordable.

In April 2025, Bahrain further expanded the program, allowing visa holders to apply for active work permits, transforming passive residency into a real launchpad for careers and businesses across the Gulf.

There is no personal income tax, and the government supports a business-friendly environment, crucial for Indian entrepreneurs and digital nomads looking for a gateway to the Middle East.

Why Indians Are Switching

Unlike the UAE’s Golden Visa, Bahrain’s scheme does not tie residency to ongoing employment or constant presence. This appeals to retirees, remote workers, professionals with regional business interests, and mid-level investors who prefer flexibility.

Dependents—including spouse, children, and parents—can be sponsored, easing family moves.

The application is fully online and claims few hidden costs, further reducing barriers for applicants from India’s expanding globally mobile classes.

Analysts highlight that, amid tightening global migration rules, Bahrain’s open and affordable policy is prompting Indians to increasingly consider Manama rather than Dubai or Abu Dhabi as their Gulf base of choice.

The Trend in Context

Since its 2022 launch, Bahrain has granted over 10,000 Golden Residencies to applicants from more than 100 countries. The program aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic diversification push, striving to attract skilled talent, boost innovation, and draw fresh FDI to Bahrain’s emerging tech and service sectors.
