Suprajit Engineering Ltd. announced a major restructuring of its North American operations, including the closure of its Juarez plant in Mexico, expansion of its Brownsville warehouse, and relocation of manufacturing and logistics functions to Matamoros, Mexico and Wichita, Kansas. The move is part of Suprajit’s broader strategy to streamline operations, improve supply chain efficiency, and reduce costs.
Key Operational Shifts
-
Juarez Plant Closure: Suprajit will wind down its maquiladora operations in Juarez, citing logistical inefficiencies and cost optimization.
-
Brownsville Expansion: The warehouse at 1931 Anei Circle, Suite A, Brownsville, Texas will be expanded to support testing, distribution, and inventory management for U.S. clients.
Relocation Strategy:
-
Manufacturing will shift to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, located just 8 km from Brownsville, offering proximity to key automotive hubs.
-
Additional support and engineering functions will be established in Wichita, Kansas, leveraging Suprajit’s existing presence through Wescon Controls.
Why It Matters
-
The restructuring aligns with Suprajit’s goal to enhance operational flexibility and respond faster to customer demands across the Americas.
-
Matamoros offers lower operating costs and improved access to skilled labor, while Wichita strengthens engineering and logistics capabilities.
-
The move follows Suprajit’s acquisition of Kongsberg Automotive’s Light Duty Cable (LDC) business, expanding its global footprint in automotive and off-highway segments.
