Land of the Rising Sun Meets Land of Ram—UP, Japan Deepen Ties to Foster Investment, Tech, Tourism

In a significant diplomatic and economic initiative, Japanese Envoy to India Ono Keiichi called on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Friday to further coordination on priority areas of technology, investment, youth skills development, and tourism.
 
The meeting underscored Japan's growing interest in Uttar Pradesh as a prime investment destination, with Ambassador Keiichi describing the state's transformation of the past eight years and its improved infrastructure, law and order, and connectivity.
 
"UP is fast emerging as a first choice for foreign investors. The facilitative environment created by the government is highly beneficial for Japanese companies," said Ambassador Keiichi.
 
Key Areas of Collaboration
  • Technology & Electronics: Japan was eager to collaborate in green hydrogen, semiconductor, and electronic manufacturing.
  • Youth Skill Development: Both sides briefly discussed UP youth being skilled for Japanese jobs, specifically technical and caregiving.
  • Tourism & Culture: As UP is a spiritual hub, the two sides committed to building Buddhist and heritage tourism for Japanese tourists.
  • Urban Mobility: Japan may be able to assist in new metro and mobility trends in UP cities.
What's Next?
A high-level UP government delegation is going to Japan next month to scout for investment and participate in the World Expo in Osaka, while the two sides also agreed to make their cooperation into concrete through a clear action plan.
 
"Our relation with Japan is historic. UP welcomes Japanese investment and technology links," CM Yogi Adityanath further stated.
