Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, while addressing on February 19, 2025, mentioned growing demands to make the film Chhaava tax-free, stating, "The government will take the necessary steps." The period film, in which Vicky Kaushal depicts Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been drawing significant interest and praise since release on February 14.
The Mumbai Dabbawala Association and other cultural organizations have requested the state government to exempt the film from tax to enhance its reach and pay homage to Maratha culture. While Maharashtra abolished entertainment tax in 2017, Shinde's remark indicates a willingness to consider additional promotional assistance for the film.
Chhaava has already achieved massive box office success, crossing ₹170 crore within days of its release, reflecting its popularity among the masses and critics.
