Maruti Suzuki Jimny has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 1 lakh cumulative sales since its launch in June 2023. The fivedoor offroad SUV has gained traction in both domestic and international markets, with exports contributing a substantial portion of total sales. However, despite its growing popularity, the Jimny remains behind its primary competitor, the Mahindra Thar, which has crossed 2.5 lakh sales since its introduction in October 2020.
Key Highlights Of Jimny’s Sales Performance
The Jimny has recorded 1,02,024 units in cumulative sales, with 26,180 units sold in India and 75,844 units exported.
The SUV is manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant and distributed via Nexa outlets.
The Jimny’s fivedoor variant was introduced to replicate the success of its threedoor global counterpart.
Comparison With Mahindra Thar
The Mahindra Thar has a broader market presence, with 2,59,921 units sold since its launch.
The Thar is available in both threedoor and fivedoor configurations, with the recent introduction of the Thar Roxx boosting sales.
While the Jimny is powered by a 1.5liter fourcylinder petrol engine producing 105 hp and 134 Nm of torque, the Thar offers petrol and diesel options, with higher torque output.
The Jimny features a 5speed manual and 4speed automatic transmission, whereas the Thar provides 6speed manual and automatic variants.
Market Position And Future Outlook
The Jimny’s pricing starts at Rs 12.75 lakh, slightly higher than the Thar’s base price of Rs 11.50 lakh.
The Thar’s mileage is lower at 9 kmpl, compared to the Jimny’s 16.94 kmpl, making the latter more fuelefficient.
Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen Jimny’s market position through targeted promotions and potential updates to enhance its appeal.
