Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. currently has close to 200,000 pending bookings, reflecting exceptional consumer demand fueled by recent GST rate reforms and the festive season, Navratri. The company has witnessed a significant surge in sales: during the first eight days of Navratri alone, over 165,000 vehicles were delivered, with total deliveries expected to cross 200,000 by Dussehra.

To cope with the increased demand, Maruti has increased production by 26% year-on-year in September, manufacturing over 201,000 units, including popular compact and utility vehicles. A substantial portion of the backlog is attributed to the Ertiga model, which accounts for over 50% of pending bookings. Measures like expanded assembly lines with additional capacity are being implemented to address this bottleneck.

However, a challenging logistics environment means many vehicles shipped to dealerships are still in transit, with efforts underway to normalize delivery operations. The company’s management remains optimistic about sustaining strong demand into October while focusing on enhancing supply chain efficiency.
