This strategic move was first unveiled by Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani at the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and is designed to position India as a global leader in AI innovation. Reliance Intelligence will focus on developing cutting-edge AI infrastructure, forging global technology partnerships, delivering wide-reaching AI services, and nurturing homegrown AI talent.
Key Highlights Of The Announcement
Reliance Intelligence is a 100% owned subsidiary committed to accelerating Reliance’s deep-tech transformation with a focus on AI.
The subsidiary will build gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centres powered by clean and green energy, starting with infrastructure currently being developed in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Strategic global partnerships have been forged, notably with Google for a dedicated cloud region in Jamnagar and with Meta for an AI joint venture.
A joint venture with Meta involves an initial investment of ₹855 crore ($100 million), with Reliance holding 70% and Meta 30%, aiming to deliver sovereign AI-ready enterprise solutions.
The subsidiary will offer trusted, affordable, and easy-to-use AI services targeting consumers, small businesses, large enterprises, and critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.
Reliance Intelligence will be a hub for world-class AI researchers, engineers, designers, and product innovators, blending rapid research with rigorous engineering.
Building India’s Next-Generation AI Infrastructure
Reliance Intelligence aims to build AI infrastructure at a scale and sophistication previously unseen in India. The data centres under construction in Jamnagar will be AI-optimized for large-scale training and inference workloads. Powered entirely by Reliance’s new-energy ecosystem using green energy sources, these centres are designed to support India’s growing AI needs over the next decade. The phased rollout will align with national growth in AI adoption, providing the necessary computing power for advanced AI applications.
Forging World-Class Global Partnerships
Reliance Intelligence’s strategy includes collaborating with leading global technology leaders and open-source AI communities. The partnership with Google will bring a dedicated Jamnagar Cloud region, leveraging clean energy and robust digital connectivity through Jio’s network to provide sovereign cloud and AI services. Additionally, the joint venture with Meta is set to develop, market, and distribute enterprise AI services using Meta’s open-source Llama models. These solutions will address cloud, on-premise, and hybrid AI deployment needs, democratizing access to enterprise-grade AI across India.
Scaling AI Services For Diverse Sectors
The new subsidiary will deploy AI services designed to be accessible and reliable at scale. Consumers and small businesses will benefit from AI-powered solutions that enhance efficiency and productivity. Large enterprises across sectors will gain cutting-edge AI tools for areas like sales, customer service, finance, and IT operations. Importantly, Reliance Intelligence plans to tailor applications to sectors of national importance such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, thereby driving inclusive growth and innovation.
Nurturing A Talent Hub For AI Innovation
Reliance Intelligence is also conceived as a platform for nurturing AI talent in India. It will attract and bring together researchers, engineers, designers, and product developers working at the frontier of AI. The subsidiary emphasizes marrying research innovation with engineering discipline to transform concepts into practical and scalable AI applications. This focus on talent incubation is expected to generate significant employment opportunities while positioning India as a global centre for AI solutions.
Pioneering Robotics And Intelligent Automation
Beyond AI software, Reliance Intelligence plans to invest in robotics and intelligent automation technologies. This includes humanoid robotics and adaptive automation systems that could revolutionize factories, warehouses, hospitals, and agricultural operations. The initiative seeks to create new high-tech industries, contribute to job creation, and modernize critical infrastructure with intelligent systems.
Vision For India’s AI Leadership
Mukesh Ambani described the launch of Reliance Intelligence as "a landmark step for Reliance and for India’s digital future," comparing it to the revolutionary impact of Jio’s digital infrastructure a decade ago. The company envisions Reliance Intelligence as a key driver in making India a global AI powerhouse by delivering AI "everywhere and for everyone" with confidence and ambition for the decade ahead.
