Maharashtra leads India in Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) services, as per a National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) assessment. The ART Centre at Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College in Nanded secured the top spot in the state and national No. 2 rank among 16 'Green Zone' centres scoring over 75.
Maharashtra has been crowned the best-performing state for ART services following a nationwide evaluation by NACO under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The September 2025 scorecard placed 16 centres in the elite 'Green Zone' for scores above 75, with Nanded's ART Centre excelling at the state level and clinching second nationally.
This triumph reflects dramatic progress at Nanded, where the score leaped from 38 in 2024-25 to 75 this year, driven by enhanced patient care protocols. Key metrics include 100% retention of people living with HIV (PLHIV) on ART, 97% viral load suppression overall, and 96% among pregnant women—outstanding outcomes that bolster India's HIV control efforts.
Dean Dr Sudhir Deshmukh credited the ART team's dedication, urging PLHIV to leverage these reliable services for better health. The recognition spotlights Maharashtra's robust public health infrastructure amid national goals to end AIDS by 2030.
