Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday hailed the pivotal contributions of women in the Indian Armed Forces, highlighting their key roles in recent military operations and maritime achievements. Speaking at the flag-in ceremony of INSV Tarini in Goa, Singh emphasized that women personnel played a "crucial role" in Operation Sindoor, India's recent counter-terrorism action against Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. "Women pilots and other female soldiers played a crucial role in the effective action taken by India against terrorism in Pakistan and PoK during Operation Sindoor," he stated, adding that women have excelled in every responsibility, from the icy heights of Siachen to the deep seas.
Singh also celebrated the achievements of Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A, who returned from an eight-month global circumnavigation aboard INSV Tarini, becoming the first Indians to complete such a voyage in double-handed mode. Their expedition, described as the "epitome of Nari Shakti," covered 25,600 nautical miles and was marked by resilience and courage in the face of isolation and oceanic challenges.
The Defence Minister underscored recent milestones, including the graduation of 17 women from the National Defence Academy this month and the opening of Sainik Schools to girls, noting that "the circle of India's security has only strengthened with the participation of women." Singh urged the returning officers to document their experiences to inspire future generations, especially young women.
The Indian Navy praised the INSV Tarini mission as a symbol of India's maritime strength and a celebration of women's empowerment, reaffirming the commitment to professionalism and responsibility across the world's oceans.
