NTPC Green Energy Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to develop 10 GW of solar and 5 GW of wind or hybrid renewable energy projects. This ambitious initiative marks a major push in India’s clean energy transition and renewable power capacity expansion
Main News Body:
In a significant step towards accelerating India’s green energy goals, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable energy arm of NTPC, has formalized an MoU with the Government of Gujarat to develop large-scale renewable energy projects totaling 15 GW—comprising 10 GW of solar power and 5 GW of wind or solar-wind hybrid projects.
Gujarat, known for its conducive policies and rich renewable energy resource base, is set to play a vital role in India’s renewable capacity addition through this partnership. The MoU sets the framework for systematic project development and effective collaboration between NTPC Green Energy and state authorities.
This initiative aligns with NTPC Green Energy’s ambitious target of achieving 60 GW renewable capacity by FY 2032, significantly contributing to India’s goal of increasing clean energy’s share in the power mix. The projects will leverage Gujarat’s vast solar irradiance and wind corridors, supported by robust infrastructure and grid connectivity enhancements.
NTPC Green Energy has already operationalized several renewable projects in Gujarat, including the 150 MW Dayapar Wind Energy Project and multiple solar facilities like the 212.5 MW Khavda-I solar project, reflecting its strong foothold in the region. The company’s hybrid approach combining solar and wind resources supports grid stability and maximizes energy output.
