NTPC Limited, India's largest power utility firm, is speeding up plans to encourage its employees to use Hindi, as part of its inclusivity, empowerment, and national language promotion commitment. Its recent firm-wide activities and plans reaffirmed the role of Hindi in internal and external communication to promote greater cohesion and efficiency among its scattered workforce.

Key Highlights
  • Corporate Communication Meet Prioritizes Hindi: During NTPC's 33rd Corporate Communication Meet in Guwahati, communication executives and over 50 senior officials exchanged best practices in effective communication with a new emphasis on the use of Hindi. The meet put a priority on Hindi reading, writing, and listening skills among communication professionals so that the language becomes very much a part of NTPC's brand and outreach.
  • Training and Recognition Programs: NTPC continues institutionalizing its essential values of team building, empowerment, and innovation by including Hindi in training modules as well as in performance management systems. Its workforce is encouraged and rewarded to speak Hindi in everyday operations, fostering a culture of inclusiveness and respect for each other.
  • Workshops and Employee Participation: Workshops and discussion classes are conducted on a regular basis where workplace issues are discussed and participative decision-making is encouraged, with communication in Hindi. Through this, not only is the employees' power enhanced, but the company's commitment to India's linguistic heritage is also reaffirmed.
  • CSR Projects and Community Engagement: NTPC's flagship projects, e.g., the Girl Empowerment Mission, incorporate Hindi language and communication studies and further integrate the language into employee and community development programs.
  •
  • Leadership Support: The senior management actively promotes the use of Hindi, recognizes and rewards Hindi communication-skilled employees, and involves families in various Hindi-based activities and competitions.

"NTPC's intention is to institutionalize a core value system and have a team building, empowering, equitable, innovative and open culture which would motivate employees and enable success in strategic objectives."

By integrating Hindi communication into its organizational culture, NTPC is not only enhancing work efficiency but also building its image as a socially responsible, culturally sensitive organization.
