Odisha government has plans to set up a Science City and a megabiotech park in Bhubaneswar as part of plans to give a fillip to scientific research, innovation, and biotechnology sector in the state. Odisha Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced this on Sunday in Bhubaneswar on National Technology Day.

Minister Patra announced that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has sanctioned the use of 100 acres of land within the capital city for the construction of the Science City project. The center is intended to exhibit scientific discoveries and innovations, targeting students and the general public. Emphasizing that very few states in India possess Science Cities, Patra hoped that Bhubaneswar will be among them soon.

Apart from the Science City, the state government is also putting in a serious effort to come up with a mega biotech park in Bhubaneswar. The park will attract prominent players in the field of biotechnology to establish their units there, and will feature strong R&D facilities.

Besides further strengthening Odisha's scientific infrastructure, the government also intends to establish more science centers and planetariums in all 30 districts of the state to further promote scientific inquiry and education in Odisha.
