Planning a trip to the bank this weekend? Think again!
Banks in India are shut today, Saturday, May 10, 2025, according to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) guidelines stipulating the second and fourth Saturdays of each month as official bank holidays. This translates into all the public sector and private sector banks being closed for normal business, with cheque processing, cash deposit, and in-branch transactions not available across the country.

But that's not all-West Bengal residents are dealing with a longer three-day bank holiday weekend. West Bengal banks were already closed on Friday, May 9, to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, and then there is today's nationwide bank holiday for the second Saturday and the usual Sunday holiday on May 11. That makes for an unusual long weekend, making it important for the region's customers to schedule their banking requirements in advance.

Key Highlights:

Banks in India remain shut today, May 10, on the occasion of Second Saturday holiday.

Banks remain shut in West Bengal for a three-day stint: May 9 (Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti), May 10 (Second Saturday), and May 11 (Sunday).

The digital banking offerings like net banking, mobile, and UPI will continue as usual during this shutdown.

The ATMs shall operate as normally, depending upon availability of funds.

The next bank holiday is on May 12 in some cities for Buddha Purnima, so refer to your local holiday calendar if you require in-branch services shortly.

Pro Tip:
With fewer holidays in May, banking days when branches reopen will be busier. For urgent requirements, use digital channels or schedule your next visit in person in advance.
