India has set a record of sorts by crossing the 100 GW installed solar power capacity. As of March 4, 2025, the installed solar capacity is 100.33 GW and accounts for 47% of the total installed renewable energy capacity. Wind power has also gained significantly and crossed 47.96 GW, just below 48 GW. This extraordinary feat is thanks to several government programs, including the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which has enabled almost 900,000 rooftop solar systems. India's solar manufacturing sector has grown from 2 GW in 2014 to 60 GW in 2024, making India a world leader in solar module manufacturing.
