The 150th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course is set for a 7:01 p.m. ET post time Saturday, May 17, with weather in perfect shape for the fans and the horses alike. With a week's worth of rain and almost-daily early morning showers, forecasters now predict a dry, fast surface at race time with temperatures in the upper 80s and no rain for the headline event.
Nine will go, headed by favorite Journalism (1-1 odds), runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, and legitimate challengers Sandman, Clever Again, and Goal Oriented. Pre-race rain may leave some residual moisture, but pleasant weather forecasted ahead indicates track conditions will be fine for all runners, especially those with off- and fast-track form.
This year's Preakness is also the last go around Pimlico's existing layout before full-scale renovations begin.
