Indian Railways has launched the redevelopment of 60 stations in the North East under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), with a vision to make them modern, passenger-centric stations. Out of these, 50 are in Assam, such as Narengi, Jagiroad, Chaparmukh, and Haiborgaon, with state-of-the-art upgrades such as lifts, escalators, parking space, and divyangjan-friendly facilities already in progress.
The project also includes four large stations in Tripura—Agartala, Udaipur, Dharmanagar, and Kumarghat—worth over ₹130 crore. The project seeks to enhance passengers' experiences through enhanced aesthetics, waiting areas, lighting, signage, and ease of access.
Guwahati Railway Station shall be converted into an IT centre with world-class facilities under a separate redevelopment plan. This massive project reflects the vision of Indian Railways to enhance levels of infrastructure in the area.
