In the wake of the devastating stampede at New Delhi Railway Station that claimed 15 lives and injured over 50 pilgrims, Indian Railways has swiftly responded with a comprehensive plan to manage the influx of Maha Kumbh attendees. The Ministry of Railways announced the immediate deployment of 12 special trains, operating on key routes to Prayagraj, the site of the Maha Kumbh 2025.
Northern Railways will run four daily special trains: two from New Delhi to Prayagraj Sangam (departure: 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM), and two from Anand Vihar Terminal to Darbhanga (departure: 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM). The Northeast Frontier Railway is introducing two pairs of special trains between Jogbani and Tundla, with stops at major pilgrimage sites.
These trains will feature additional security personnel and medical staff on board. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been instructed to implement crowd management protocols at all major stations. Passengers are urged to book tickets in advance through the IRCTC website or mobile app, where real-time availability and platform information will be updated.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, "Our priority is the safety and comfort of pilgrims. We are coordinating with state authorities to ensure smooth travel experiences during this auspicious event."
Pilgrims are advised to stay updated with the latest announcements and follow safety guidelines issued by the railways. A 24/7 helpline (139) has been set up for pilgrim assistance and emergency support.
