Rain Check! IndiGo and SpiceJet Warn of Delays as Delhi Weather Drenches Plans

Updated: July 10, 2025 13:38

As incessant rainfall continues to lash Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), budget carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued urgent travel advisories for passengers flying to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The airlines have warned of potential delays and disruptions due to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and adverse weather conditions, urging travelers to check flight status and plan extra travel time.

What the Airlines Are Saying
IndiGo advised passengers to leave early for the airport and monitor flight updates via its website or app. The airline noted that air traffic congestion and slow-moving city traffic could impact timely check-ins.

SpiceJet issued a similar alert, stating that departures, arrivals, and consequential flights may be affected due to heavy rain. Passengers were asked to stay updated on their flight status and allow for delays.

IGI Airport Advisory
Delhi Airport confirmed that flight operations remain normal, but advised passengers to use the metro and avoid road travel where possible. On-ground teams are coordinating with airlines and air traffic control to minimize disruptions.

Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi, predicting moderate to intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next three days. Waterlogging has already been reported in parts of Gurugram, adding to travel woes.

Passenger Tips
  • Check flight status before leaving home
  • Use metro or alternate transport to avoid traffic delays
  • Carry rain gear and allow extra time for airport procedures
  • Stay updated via airline social media handles and official websites
