Rapido, India’s bike-taxi giant, is making a high-stakes move into the online food delivery market, aiming to disrupt Zomato and Swiggy with lower commission rates for restaurants. The company has partnered with the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) to onboard 1,000 restaurant suppliers within a year, offering 8-15% commissions, significantly lower than the 16-30% charged by competitors.
Key Highlights:
Rapido to charge restaurants only 8-15% commission, compared to Zomato & Swiggy’s 16-30%.
Fixed delivery fee model – ₹25 for orders below ₹400, ₹50 for orders above.
Pilot launch expected in Bengaluru by late June or early July.
NRAI partnership ensures better margins for small restaurants.
Rapido follows Ola & Uber’s past attempts at food delivery, aiming for long-term success.
With India’s food delivery market valued at ₹1.95 trillion, Rapido’s aggressive pricing strategy could reshape the industry, but will it succeed where others failed?
