Gujarat was gearing up for a major civil defense mock drill, dubbed "Operation Shield," scheduled for May 29, 2025. This exercise was part of a larger initiative across India’s western border states aimed at enhancing readiness for emergencies like air raids, drone strikes, and missile attacks. However, the drill has now been officially postponed due to administrative issues, following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Initially, the exercise was designed to mimic real-life emergency situations—think air raid sirens, power outages, evacuation procedures, and emergency communication drills—across various locations in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. Local authorities had lined up activities such as mobilizing volunteers, implementing blackout protocols, and conducting mass casualty simulations to test and improve the state’s preparedness.
This postponement impacts not only Gujarat but also neighboring states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, with new dates for the drill expected to be announced soon. Officials have stressed that the purpose of the drill is to bolster civil defense capabilities and ensure public safety in the face of potential threats, especially given the current climate of increased tensions along India’s western border.
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for official updates and remain vigilant, as the rescheduled drills will be communicated in due time.
