Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) will commission its first solar photovoltaic (PV) module giga factory at the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, by the end of 2025, marking a high point in India's clean energy vision. The company also confirmed commissioning plans for giga factories for next-generation battery storage and micro power electronics in 2026, further cementing its $10 billion renewables, energy storage, and green hydrogen vision.
Solar PV Giga Factory Launch in 2025:
RIL has launched its first line for manufacturing high-efficiency heterojunction (HJT) solar modules, featuring panels with ratings of up to 720 watts—among the highest in India. The plant is a part of an overall strategy to reach 10 GW yearly solar module output capacity by 2026 and scale up to 20 GW in subsequent stages.
Integrated Manufacturing Ecosystem:
The Jamnagar complex will span the entire solar value chain—polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells, modules, and glass—on a single campus, making one of the largest and most sophisticated solar manufacturing complexes in the world.
Battery Giga Factory by 2026:
Reliance is likely to commission a giga factory for LFP battery by 2026 to manufacture battery chemicals, cells, packs, and containerized energy storage solutions. The plant will also have a recycling unit for enabling a circular economy and will be engaged in speeding up sodium-ion battery technology.
Micro Power Electronics and Electrolyser Factories
In addition to solar and batteries, RIL is constructing giga factories for micro power electronics and green hydrogen electrolysers, the latter of which will come into production by 2026. These factories will enable India to pursue energy self-reliance and net zero emissions by 2035.
Strategic Impact
The new plants will assist in reducing India's dependence on imported solar parts, uphold the government directive of the usage of domestic modules in clean energy schemes from June 2026, and hasten the nation's shift toward renewable energy to the 500 GW by 2030 goal.
Leadership Commentary:
"With this launch, we want to create an end-to-end solar ecosystem—from polysilicon to module—within India itself," stated a top RIL official, underscoring the firm's vision of global leadership in clean energy.
Insight
Reliance Industries' quick commissioning of its solar PV giga factory and soon-to-be-commissioned battery and micro power electronics giga factories are indicative of a revolutionary leap for India's renewable energy industry. These integrated plants will not only strengthen manufacturing and energy security in the country but also make RIL a leader in the global green technology value chain.
